KetSA targets 50 pct greenery by 2040

BUKIT GANTANG, July 12 — The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KetSA) is targeting 50 per cent of the country’s land area to be covered with greenery by 2040.

Its minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said to achieve that goal, all programmes organised are required to plant trees in order to achieve the target of 100 million trees within five years.

“Now we have achieved 43 per cent greenery, and 50 per cent can be achieved nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak, because every year we have to plant 20 million trees and since it was launched in January 2021, and until December 31 last year it has reached 27 million," Takiyuddin said

He was speaking at a press conference of the ‘Mesra Rakyat Keluarga Malaysia’ programme for Central Zone at Sungai Tinggi multipurpose hall in Sungai Kerang, near Terong, today.

Takiyuddin said that for this year, his ministry was expected to reach the target of planting 36 million trees, and needed another four million to be planted within the next six months until the end of December this year.

“I urge the public to plant trees at all mosques and institutions of higher learning so the target of 50 per cent greenery in the country can be achieved,” he said.
