SHAH ALAM, July 7 — The state government has identified new development areas in Sepang and Kuala Langat through the Integrated Development Region In South Selangor (Idriss).
State executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said development should not be concentrated solely in the Klang Valley as the state wants to have an equitable distribution of economic activity among all districts.
“Under Idriss, an integrated private investment will be developed in Sepang and Kuala Langat with a gross development value of RM1 trillion, involving some 3,276 hectares of land.
“The state government is aiming to woo high impact and high value investment in both districts. We also will be providing incentives to foreign investors to develop their projects here,” he said as a panellist during the economic forum session at the First Selangor Plan Pre-Launch Symposium at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre, here today.
Other panellists during the session were state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim, state executive councillor for halal industry Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.
Meanwhile Izham said one of the biggest challenges faced by the state government is to ensure that economic development could be fairly distributed to all nine districts in Selangor.
He said Sabak Bernam is the most underdeveloped area compared to other districts.
“That is why under the First Selangor Plan, we established the clustering approach and Sabak Bernam is covered by the agriculture focus.
“We have established the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) to encourage economic development in the district, involving an area of 1,317 hectares with an estimated investment of RM1.9 billion.
“There are five main cores that have been identified including to increase high value commodities and productivity by using the latest agricultural technology, to develop growth of industrial chains and creation of jobs, to develop tourism products relating to agritourism and ecotourism, the attraction of new investment to develop downstream industries and the development of public facilities and infrastructure,” he said.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had earlier launched the symposium of the RS-1, which will be tabled at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on July 25.
