SEPANG, March 2 — The Selangor government has spent RM500,000 in assistance channelled to 250 farmers affected by the December floods last year.
State executive councillor for agricultural modernisation and agro-based industry Izham Hashim said in ensuring the continuity of agricultural production, the state administration will continue to disburse other forms of assistance, including the ones allocated by the Federal government.
“Although the farmers were severely affected (by the floods), they carried on and continued with the farming activities. Therefore, the assistance in the form of fertilisers is part of our effort to uplift their spirits.
“Not only were the farms destroyed, but other farming equipment and facilities such as fertigation pumps were also damaged, which cost a loss of more than RM10 million,” he said during a handover ceremony of the contributions yesterday.
Izham had also launched an animated video on the Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices Scheme (myGAP) to promote quality crops to the public during the event.
Meanwhile, Izham added that the RM1,000 cash aid under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) is also disbursed to farmers whose homes were inundated by floodwaters.
On December 21 last year, the state government had announced the RM100 million in allocation under BSB to help flood-hit families following the heavy floods caused by continuous torrential rain from December 17 to December 19.
