SHAH ALAM, March 1 — Football fans in Selangor can look forward to an exciting season this time around, as Brazilians Hyuri Henrique and Herlison Caion hit the field for the Super League starting this week.
The Star reported the 30-year old Hyuri saying he hopes to make a lasting impression in his first derby match.
“We hope to make an immediate impact, starting with our first game. We have had a good pre-season where we played several friendly games and also had a bonding session in Pahang,” he said.
Hyuri added that it was his first time playing in Malaysia and that he was very grateful to his teammates, who made him feel welcomed.
“They have been great since the first day. Also, I cannot deny the talents here, which makes me look forward to an exciting and happy time here,” he told The Star.
Selangor will go up against Kuala Lumpur in the Klang Valley derby, which will take place at the Cheras Football Stadium on Friday (March 4).
The previous season saw Selangor and Kuala Lumpur play out to 1 - 1 draws on two occasions.
Hyuri joined the Red Giants after his previous stint with the UAE-based Hatta Club in 2021. Prior to that, he played in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Brazil’s top division league.
Selangor FC is putting their hopes with Hyuri and Herlison, following the departure of their top scorer last season, Ifedayo Olusegun, who recently left to join Melaka.
While effusive of Olusegun’s playing skills, Hyuri added that Red Giants’ supporters should begin to recognise the team’s newer players.
“After training with Selangor, I feel they have good quality players. We have Herlison, who has proven himself in the Thai League. So I am optimistic we will do well this season,” he said.
