SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — The second phase of the post-flood clean-up operation is expected to be complete by the end of this month or early March, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the cleaning works in the flood-stricken areas in Selangor has been completed except in Taman Sri Muda, here.

“The KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) Sdn Bhd will expedite the process by organising a major community cleaning programme (gotong-royong) on February 6.

“As for other areas such as Taman Sentosa and Klang Utama, the residents are still cleaning up their homes and getting their furniture replaced. This had caused the garbage to pile up again, especially in residential areas.

“Therefore, KDEBWM will continue to focus on the said areas, which are expected to continue until the end of March,” he said during a special press conference on the latest updates of the flood-related issues at the Selangor State Secretariat building, which was broadcasted live on Media Selangor’s Facebook today.

Amirudin said the State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) had approved RM31.7 million to the Selangor Public Works Department for critical projects which needed urgent restoration.

“For the restoration of infrastructures, 14 projects have commenced in stages in seven districts.

“This involves the construction or restoration of roads, bridges and cleaning-up, with an allocation of RM31.7 million.

“This includes the slope treatment in Bukit Peras with an estimated cost of RM3 million, RM2.8 million for the collapsed cliff in Sungai Lui and RM1.2 million for replacement of the Sungai Jenderam bridge,” he added.
