KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — The Selangor Digital School will be set up as part of the state administration’s effort to address the acute shortage of local digital talents, says the Selangor Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that based on news reports, an estimated 500,000 digital jobs are yet to be filled.

“I am looking forward to forming the Selangor Digital School by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), in cooperation with international foreign venture capitalist organisation The Hive, and Universiti Selangor, by next year.

“With the emergence of the digital school, we hope to offer short courses, diploma, degree and even master’s programmes, with a digital focus curated for professionals and graduates who wish to upskill or undergo a career change, at a reasonable cost, with the help of professional coaches and obtain recognised certificates.

“I hope the hard work to revive Malaysia’s economy due to the pandemic will pay off with Sidec’s digital initiatives that have taken place so far,” he said in his opening speech in officiating the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention 2021 (SDEC 2021) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here today.

SDEC 2021 is in tandem with the Selangor International Business Summit 2021, which runs from November 18 to 21.

Also present were Selangor state executive councillor for trade and industry Dato’ Teng Chang Kim and renowned singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, in her capacity as CTDK Holdings Sdn Bhd (CTDK) president.

Amirudin and Teng also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between CTDK and Sidec during the ceremony.
