PETALING JAYA, Nov 10 — Some 113,000 workers from over 1,200 companies and factories in various sectors have participated in the Preventing and Detecting Outbreaks at Ignition Sites (POIS) programme.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government’s initiative to curb the spread of the virus at workplaces is joined by higher education institutions (IPTs).

“POIS is also implemented at 53 IPTs involving over 73,000 individuals, including students,” he said when met during the roundtable conference with the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce at Sheraton Hotel yesterday.

POIS was launched on January 6 as an effort by the state government to prevent and reduce workplace clusters. Registered employers must set up a committee to identify high-risk areas and activities (on their premises).

The committee will come out with their emergency action plans, reduce external contacts, and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The SELangkah app also is used to record the in-and-out movement of employees and monitors the POIS system.

The programme, which began on February 1, has seen not only factories in Selangor participate, but also from other states such as Celestica Malaysia in Johor and Kedah.
