Selangor Foundation tasked with driving education forward

SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — The Menteri Besar wants the Selangor Foundation to be the main driver of the education sector in the state and position itself as the platform to manage the Selangor Smart State 2025 initiative.

The Selangor Foundation said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari made the request during the foundation’s 2021 annual general meeting at the Shah Alam Convention Centre on October 8.

According to the plan, all of the state’s education programmes and student financing schemes will be managed and run by the Selangor Foundation.

In a statement released today, the foundation said: “All forms of aid and education-related programmes, from kindergarten and tuition classes for the B40 group, right up to the Bitara programme that seeks to nurture the best brains in Selangor, will soon fall under our umbrella.”

“The Bitara programme seeks to find high-achieving secondary school students and pay for their education, up to the point where they graduate from university or receive their doctorate degrees. We are ready to spend RM1.5 million on each remarkable student in our programme,” the statement added.

The Selangor Foundation also highlighted Amirudin’s request for it to restructure its company assets.

“Therefore, we are looking to hire a few professional bodies to enhance our administrative work, especially in the area of asset management, in order to become more efficient and reap the highest returns for the state.

“All our profits will go back to the people of Selangor via the state-sponsored programmes we roll out,” it said.
