Nick Adams will not take up post as US Ambassador to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 — Political commentator and writer Nick Adams, who was nominated as the new United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia in July last year, will not be taking up the post, according to reports.

The Australian-born Adams confirmed to The Sydney Morning Herald that he would not become the next US ambassador to Malaysia, but hinted at a new role to be announced soon.

“I have been promoted from the role of ambassador!” he told the news outlet in an email reply.

Adams' nomination was never confirmed by the Senate and lapsed at the end of the year, as required by procedure.

According to the US Congress website, his nomination was returned to the President in January under the provisions of Senate Rule XXXI, Paragraph 6 of the Standing Rules of the Senate.

According to the media report, Adams was absent from a long list of nominations resubmitted to the Senate in January. He was also not included in another list submitted this month.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday, he teased that “Major Announcement Coming!” without providing further details.

“More details on that will come this upcoming week. I am sure you will see it if you are looking out for it,” Adams said in a reply to the news outlet.
