SHAH ALAM, Feb 14 — One hundred B40 families received RM300 in cash assistance from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

The initiative reflects the local authority’s concern in reaching out to those in need, particularly ahead of the festive season.

“Recipients were identified through the e-Kasih database as well as nominations by councillors,” it said in a statement.

The contributions were presented during a celebration ceremony at Dataran Boulevard and Jalan Tengah, Section 52, yesterday, and were officiated by Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato' Mohamad Zahri Samingon.

Also present were Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran and Taman Medan state legislative assembly coordinator Halimey Abu Bakar.

During the event, five senior citizens care centres also received contributions of selected pre-loved items and RM300 shopping vouchers via the Jalinan Kasih 3R PJKita Programme.

“This initiative aims to strengthen community support and promote sustainable 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) practices,” MBPJ said.

The celebration was further enlivened by various cultural performances, including lion and dragon dances, a Chinese orchestra, singing, and busking performances.

Other traditional activities, including a lucky draw and the distribution of angpau to children and senior citizens, were also held.

The council added that the programme's organisation reflects its continued commitment to strengthening harmony within the multicultural community, supporting vulnerable groups, and advancing an inclusive and sustainable urban development agenda.
