MACC to probe RM1.1b investment linked to ex-minister

GENTING HIGHLANDS, Feb 13 — The investigation papers regarding alleged misappropriation involving a RM1.11 billion investment linked to a former senior minister will be opened by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) once the relevant documents have been reviewed.

Its Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said the commission has so far received complaints from three non-governmental organisations and needs time to conduct a review.

“However, at this stage, I hope to be given some time first to examine the documents submitted to us before any further action is taken,” he said after the closing ceremony of the MACC Journalism Workshop today.

Yesterday, the commission confirmed it had received a report about the alleged misappropriation of investments totalling RM1.11 billion linked to the former senior minister.

The complainants suspected irregularities in the negotiation and approval process, as well as issues that could give rise to perceived conflicts of interest.
