Man and son arrested for grisly Kota Kinabalu murder

SHAHA ALAM, Feb 13 — Police have apprehended a man and his son in connection with a case where a woman’s body was dismembered into seven parts and dumped at several locations in Indah Permai, Kota Kinabalu, yesterday.

The son, in his 20s, was arrested at around 11 pm at a house in Sepanggar during a special police operation.

The operation involved the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters, Bukit Aman, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters, D8 technical support, and the Crime Prevention Patrol unit from Luyang Police Station.

His arrest followed the detention of his father, a man in his 70s and known to be the main suspect, at around 5 pm on Wednesday — less than 24 hours after the victim’s body was discovered.

Acting Kota Kinabalu district police chief, Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, confirmed both arrests.

“The second suspect was detained to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“The main suspect, a local man in his 70s, had already been identified and arrested. The motive is currently believed to be jealousy,” he told Berita Harian.

He added that with both suspects in custody, the case is considered resolved, although further investigations are ongoing to complete the case files.

Earlier, police had found parts of a body belonging to a woman believed to be in her 40s at different dump sites in Taman Indah Permai.

Her hands and legs were found at 6.30 am while her head and torso were discovered at 11.40 am near the same location.
