Malaysia, Indonesia to renew 1997 energy MOU

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to renew the memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the energy sector signed in 1997, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof in a Facebook post today.

He said the matter was discussed during his meeting with Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia today.

The meeting also discussed strategies to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly involving implementation aspects, coordination with relevant authorities and potential strategic investments, Fadillah added.

“The outcomes of these discussions will be translated into follow-up actions between both countries as efforts to further invigorate the energy industry and sector in the ASEAN region,” he said.

Fadillah, who is also energy transition and water transformation minister, is on a working visit to Indonesia to strengthen strategic collaboration in the energy sector between the two countries.

Also present at the meeting were Sarawak Deputy Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS Affairs) Minister Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin, and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry deputy secretary-general (energy) Mareena Mahpudz.
