‘Ramadan bazaars in Selangor generated RM668m last year’

SHAH ALAM, Feb 11 — Ramadan bazaars in Selangor recorded nearly RM668 million in sales last year, underscoring their role as a key economic driver, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added that based on data from the Statistics Department (DOSM), about 15,000 traders were involved statewide.

“Ramadan bazaars are not just places to buy food for breaking fast; they also create a strong economic chain each year,” he told reporters when met after handing over Ramadan bazaar permits to 2,123 traders at the MBSA Convention Centre here today.

The menteri besar said his administration continues to make bazaars in the state better, including via Platform Selangor (PLATS), which was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to support traders and boost their income.

“Thank God, from adapting during the pandemic, we have continued to grow in today’s regular circumstances.

“Last year, digital transactions through collaborations between PLATS, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), local authorities, and Agrobank reached about RM7 million, covering 1,411 (trader) lots,” Amirudin said.
