Selangor MMEA evacuates stroke patient from cruise ship

SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — The Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) conducted a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) of a female passenger who suffered a stroke aboard a cruise ship en route from Phuket, Thailand, to Singapore yesterday.

Its director Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the agency’s Operations Centre received a request to evacuate the passenger from cruise ship 'Ovation of the Seas' at 3.53pm.

“The passenger, identified as Tan Yok Ah, 84, was transported using the vessel, 'Penggalang 10’, from the rendezvous point located 3.2 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Pintu Gedong around 5.35pm and arrived at the Pulau Indah Marine Police Force Jetty at about 6pm on the same day.

“Upon arrival, the patient was rushed to the Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre by ambulance for further treatment, accompanied by two medical personnel,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Muhaimin added that the agency also remained on standby to provide emergency and humanitarian assistance in Malaysian waters at any time and under all circumstances.

Members of the public with information or complaints related to suspicious activities or maritime emergencies may contact the Selangor Maritime Operations Centre at 013-6606652 or the 999 emergency line for immediate action.
