SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — At 26, Muhammad Isa Md Zakaria has assumed a major responsibility after being appointed the village head of Kampung Tanjung Jawa in Sabak Bernam, proving that youth is no barrier to serving the community.
The young entrepreneur admitted that the appointment came with mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness, as the role represents a new challenge in his life.
“I feel very fortunate and proud, but at the same time, there is a sense of fear because this is a big responsibility. The previous village head was elderly, and his leadership style was more ‘old school’.
“If given the opportunity, I would like to introduce a new approach. Our village is small, with only about 600 residents, but it could potentially be explored from the perspective of cultural tourism,” he said.
Isa added that a leader’s achievements should not be judged solely by age, but rather by commitment and effort, drawing reference from the Turkish Sultan Mehmed II, who conquered Constantinople in 1453 at the age of 21.
“Many people look down on the young because of their age, but with effort and courage, great things can be achieved,” he said.
Isa received his appointment letter during the 2025 Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) Appreciation Ceremony and the Presentation of Appointment Letters for JPKK Chairpersons for the 2026/2027 term at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) last night.
The letter was presented by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, with the state executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail also in attendance.
