SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — A stoppage-time penalty from Chrigor Moraes ensured Selangor FC (SFC) edged Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) 1-0 in the first leg of their Malaysia Cup quarter-final at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi last night.
The decisive goal came in the 95th minute after both sides had been locked in a scoreless battle for most of the match, handing the Red Giants a crucial advantage heading into the return leg.
According to a report by BH Online, Selangor started the match on the front foot and dominated possession in the first half, but several dangerous attempts were kept out by Negeri Sembilan goalkeeper Muhammad Azri Abdul Ghani.
The hosts regrouped after the break and looked more threatening, with Joseph Esso and Takumi Sasaki leading a series of attacks. Substitute Jovan Motika also came close, but Selangor goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi stood firm to deny Negeri Sembilan at the back.
Selangor thought they had broken the deadlock in the 76th minute when Moraes found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out following a VAR review that confirmed a handball in the build-up.
The decision drew protests from Selangor head coach Kim Pan Gon, who was shown a yellow card by referee Tuan Mohamad Yaasin Tuan Mohd Hanafiah.
Just when the match appeared set to end in a draw, Moraes emerged as the hero once more, calmly converting a penalty deep into injury time to seal a valuable away victory for Selangor.
