SUBANG JAYA, Feb 8 — The state contributes approximately one quarter of the national economy, and that strength depends on the solidarity and unity of the people, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
As such, social harmony and stability must continue to be safeguarded to ensure Selangor remains the nation’s economic backbone and sustains its existing excellence.
He said that differences of opinion should not become a source of division; instead, they should be discussed and resolved in a mature and harmonious manner for the common good.
“If there are differences, we discuss them. If there are issues, we try to resolve them harmoniously. If we can formulate and finalise solutions, we conclude them swiftly.
“Why? Because we must continue to move forward. The state of Selangor is vital and extremely important to the country.
“Why? Because the state contributes more than one-quarter to Malaysia’s economy. Without Selangor’s strength and stability, the national economy will also be affected. If we fail, Malaysia will likewise suffer adverse impacts and consequences,” Amirudin said.
He was delivering his speech during the Chinese New Year celebration at Taman Rekreasi Wawasan in Puchong last night.
At the event, the Menteri Besar also reminded the public not to be easily influenced or incited by irresponsible parties that deliberately inflame sentiments of difference for narrow political interests.
“For them, what matters is personal gratification, or some attempt to secure quick political victories. This is not a zero-sum game.
“This state represents our future and the future of the nation. As the Menteri Besar, I have a responsibility to protect the Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities in Selangor,” Amirudin said.
He added that since 2008, the state administration has ensured all races and religions are treated fairly, with their respective rights guaranteed in line with the Federal Constitution.
“The state government is always mindful and fully aware that the unity of our multi-racial society must be preserved.
“This is because it is this very spirit that drives the state forward, making Selangor the economic champion of our country,” Amirudin said.
