SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — The Selangor government is inviting individuals seeking employment opportunities to join the semiconductor industry through a free training programme worth up to RM10,000.

Selangor investment, trade and mobility executive councillor Ng Sze Han said the initiative aims to develop local skilled talent in high-impact fields, in line with Malaysia’s aspiration to become a world-class chip design hub.

He said the programme is divided into two categories — the National Semiconductor Excellence Programme (NSEP) and the Global Semiconductor Exchange Programme (GSEP).

“NSEP is open to fresh graduates and unemployed Malaysians under the age of 30. Participants will learn Integrated Circuit (IC) design or embedded systems in Cyberjaya, before beginning their careers with starting salaries ranging from RM4,000 to RM8,000.

“Meanwhile, under GSEP, participants will be sent to Chennai, India, to master RISC-V architecture, which represents the future of the global chip industry.

“Chennai was chosen as it is a global ‘core battleground’ for semiconductor technology. Participants will be involved in real-world projects that provide an elite advantage in the industry,” he said in a video uploaded on Facebook.

State exco for investment and trade Ng Sze Han, seen here in Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang, on December 22, 2025, says participants of the programme get to undertake real-world projects.

Ng added that the programme is also open to those who are already employed or are non-graduates, as long as they have a STEM background, with no age limit.

“Malaysia is moving towards becoming a world-class chip design hub. Don’t miss out,” he said.
