Lorry driver charged with armed robbery, sexual assault

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — A lorry driver pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to charges of armed robbery and committing sexual intercourse against the order of nature on a Thai woman in December last year.

G. Loganathan, 32, was charged with robbing the victim of RM300 in cash by using a screwdriver and a crowbar in a car in Taman Gembira at 2am on December 26, 2025.

The charge is under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and the possibility of a fine or whipping if convicted.

In addition, the accused was also charged with committing unnatural sex against the victim without her consent in the same vehicle along Jalan Midah, Cheras, between 2am and 12.30pm on the same date.

The offence was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of five years to a maximum of 20 years, and can be subject to whipping if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir did not offer bail because the offence was serious and that Loganathan is at risk of fleeing or harassing the victim and witnesses, as the victim is a Thai national.

"The accused is likely to harass the victim and prosecution witnesses since the victim is a Thai national and there is no consent in this case," he said.

Lawyer Charanpal Singh, who represented the accused, requested the court to grant his client bail on the grounds that the accused suffered from a hernia and needed to seek hospital treatment, and was willing to comply with additional conditions.

Judge Azrol Abdullah rejected Loganathan's bail application, saying the offence was serious, and set March 16 as the date for the case's mention.
