Disaster alerts, Syariah policies top today's Dewan Rakyat agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 — The effectiveness of the disaster early warning system in disseminating information quickly and comprehensively will be among the matters discussed at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

According to the Order Paper on Parliament’s official website, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu) will raise the question to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability to ascertain the effectiveness of the system, particularly in rural areas, during the oral question-and-answer session.

At the same session, Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah) will ask the prime minister to state the status of the National Syariah Prosecution Efficiency Plan (PKPSN) as an official national policy.

He will also inquire about the government’s readiness to establish a Federal Syariah Prosecution Department Act to strengthen and ensure the independence of Islamic prosecution functions, similar to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

In addition, Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) will ask the prime minister to provide updates on the government’s proposal to enact a Political Financing Act to ensure transparency.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN-Kemaman) will also ask the minister of higher education to state the percentage of graduates employed in semi-skilled jobs and outside their fields of study from 2021 to 2025, as well as the government’s strategic efforts to reduce the percentage each year.

Following the oral question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will resume the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address, which began last week, following the Opening Ceremony of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on January 19.

According to the Dewan Rakyat calendar, the current sitting will last for 20 days until March 3.
