SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 — The state government is looking to strengthen cooperation with Turkiye to support Selangor’s energy and food security initiatives, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
This comes after a courtesy call by the Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yüksel earlier today.
During the meeting, they discussed potential collaboration between Selangor and Karpowership, a Turkish energy company and the world’s leading owner and operator of Powerships, especially to support energy needs at the Pulau Indah Port, one of Selangor’s key logistics and industrial hubs.
“We also exchanged views on Selangor’s food security framework, including the role of Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) in operating the Selangor Food Warehouse (GMS) as a strategic food reserve to ensure supply stability, price control, and rapid response during emergencies.
“Turkiye also expressed interest in exploring collaboration with PKPS, particularly in the supply of meat and related agri-food products to support Selangor’s food security agenda,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) today.
Pulau Indah in Klang is a key maritime and industrial hub anchored by Westports, one of Southeast Asia’s busiest container terminals, and plays a major role in Malaysia’s trade and logistics along the Straits of Malacca.
The GMS is the first such food warehouse in Malaysia, launched in March last year as part of efforts to strengthen the security of carbohydrate and protein supplies, especially during unforeseen emergencies.
Amirudin also highlighted the state’s focus on sustainable partnerships with various parties globally.
“Selangor remains committed to building sustainable, high-impact international partnerships that support economic growth, resilience, and the well-being of our people,” he said.
