Olak Lempit fire did not involve hazardous materials

SHAH ALAM, Jan 15 — Pentas Flora Group clarified that the fire involving its facility at the Olak Lempit Industrial Area in Banting yesterday did not affect its scheduled waste recovery facility, machinery, or any hazardous materials.

It said the affected area is a construction site plot of land owned by the scheduled waste management company, currently used as a parking area with plans for future conversion into a dedicated parking lot and workshop for its fleet.

“Upon discovery of the fire, emergency protocols were immediately activated, and the Fire and Rescue Department was deployed to the scene. We are currently still assessing the damages and will update on it as soon as possible.

“The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and relevant authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. As of this moment, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

"We are cooperating fully with officials to ensure a comprehensive inquiry,” Pentas Flora said in a statement today.

The company also apologised to nearby residents and the local community for the alarm and inconvenience caused, adding that it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and will release a report on the cause of the incident once investigations are completed.

Earlier, the media reported that firefighters have put out 95 per cent of the blaze involving four premises at the Olak Lempit Industrial Area, and expect it to be fully extinguished later today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (Operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said that, so far, the firefighting operation is at the overhaul phase, with only small embers being fully extinguished.

It was also reported at least three people were killed in the incident, with the victims’ bodies found charred during an inspection at the scene.
