SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — Emergency housing units at Smart Rent residences will be provided as a preparedness measure to deal with disasters and emergencies, said state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.

A working paper on the provision of these units is being prepared to ensure every housing project can offer temporary accommodation for affected residents, including during evacuations due to floods or other disasters.

“In previous discussions, we (the state government) emphasised the importance of providing several units in each area for emergency use, including temporary assistance for flood victims or those requiring evacuation.

“(InsyaAllah) God willing, this working paper will ensure we are prepared in terms of funding, logistics and maintenance so that these units can be utilised immediately when needed,” he said.

Borhan added that this year, Selangor has also successfully recorded the construction of 80,000 housing units, leaving a balance of approximately 120,000 units still in the implementation stage.

Meanwhile, the Rewang Komuniti Strata programme implemented throughout last year has shown positive results, with its allocation for 2026 increased by RM2 million.

“The budget for the Rewang Komuniti Strata programme has also been doubled following the success of its previous implementation, as part of our efforts to engage with residents in high-rise housing areas.

“This additional allocation will allow us to expand the reach of Smart Rent further and provide new units for temporary and emergency use,” he said.
