SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — A combo by the Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat) is busking traditional music at the Sultan Alam Shah Museum, entertaining visitors while emphasising the importance of preserving Selangor’s cultural identity.
Padat combo guitarist Azrad M. Ramlan said song choices are spontaneous depending on the ages of visitors to the museum, to ensure traditional music can be enjoyed by everyone.
“This time, we’re trying something different by busking. Every song is chosen based on spontaneous ideas by sessionists and the tastes of visitors.
“With this approach, not only can visitors be entertained, they could experience heritage art for themselves,” he told Media Selangor.
Azrad added that low demand from listeners is the main challenge for buskers of traditional music, and urged the public to delve into traditional songs and classic Malay films to appreciate the country’s history and culture.
He emphasised that efforts to preserve traditional music isn’t just up to arts practitioners, but need the support of the people to ensure this heritage is preserved and is relevant in the era of modern music.
