MBPJ gears up for Seksyen 52 redevelopment

PETALING JAYA, Dec 18 — A redevelopment project is set to kick off on land owned by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), involving Complex C and government reserve land, on Lorong Sultan, Pusat Bandar Seksyen 52, here.

Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the RM1 billion project will start next year, with several projects slated for the area.

“This is Petaling Jaya’s new landmark, we are not issuing any funds as it is a privatisation; there will be developers implementing this project.

“This was brought to the state government early last year and it agreed to the redevelopment. We are leaving it to the state government to choose a developer,” Zahri told a press conference after an MBPJ meeting at the city council headquarters here today.

He explained that the new endeavour involves projects such as apartments, shops, a convention centre that can accommodate 5,000, and a 10,000sqft (929sqm) digital library.

“There will also be an aquatic centre with three pools — one Olympic-sized, one kids’ pool, and a recreational pool — (as well as) an office space, a spectator area, a parking lot, a skywalk, a square, a stage, and other facilities like a surau,” Zahri said.
