SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has said Malaysia Airlines and its legal team is appealing the RM1.68 million compensation payout to the families of victims on disappeared flight MH370, as ordered by a Beijing court on December 5.

MAG managing director Datuk Izham Ismail said Malaysian Airlines lawyers are appealing the decision.

“We don’t have an update so far. Our lawyers are appealing,” he told a press conference after launching the MAG Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 today, as reported by the New Straits Times.

Flight MH370, a Boeing B777 owned by Malaysian Airlines, was carrying 239 passengers and crew when it went missing on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Most passengers were Chinese citizens.

On December 9, a Beijing court ordered Malaysia Airlines to compensate each victim’s family for damages, funeral expenses, emotional distress, other losses and related costs, totalling over 2.9 million yuan (RM1.68 million) per case.
