HULU SELANGOR, Dec 14 — The state government’s Rewang Komuniti Strata programme has become a platform for local arts practitioners to showcase the uniqueness of cultural diversity to rural residents.
Dance instructor Noor Azura Abd Hamid, 39, said a variety of cultural performances were staged throughout the programme, including silat as well as Malay, Chinese, and Indian dances specially presented for the local community.
“Usually, for those of us living in Hulu Selangor, we have to go to Kuala Lumpur to watch traditional cultural performances. However, through programmes like this, local residents are able to witness the talents of children from their own area.
“I find that Rewang Komuniti Strata is more vibrant than other programmes, perhaps due to its community-oriented structure,” she said.
Meanwhile, housewife Nor Sakinah Rosli, 33, spent the entire day from morning until night at the programme, held at Taman Bunga Raya yesterday.
Notably, she also donned traditional Malay attire in keeping with the theme of the closing rewang event, which nearly 1,000 residents attended
“I hope this programme will continue, as sometimes when we only stay at home, our relationships with neighbours become distant.
“However, through programmes like this, the atmosphere is vivacious and helps to strengthen community ties. Earlier today, we could see the Chinese, Indian, and Malay communities coming together to participate in activities and games,” Sakinah said.
Teacher Ahmad Faiz Muhamad Nazri, 27, who initially attended merely to accompany a friend, did not expect the programme to be so lively from morning until night.
He said the residents' willingness to stay until the programme concluded at 11pm demonstrated strong support for the initiative.
“I hope this programme will be continued every year. If possible, it should become an annual event or an ‘anniversary’ for Bukit Beruntung. Do not discontinue this programme, as Hulu Selangor is a rural area that needs community-based initiatives like this.
“Rewang Komuniti is very beneficial for our area and represents a shift in approach in engaging with the people,” Faiz said.
All of them spoke to Media Selangor during Rewang Komuniti Strata's closing ceremony at the Taman Bunga Raya Hawker Centre in Bukit Beruntung yesterday.
The programme, first implemented last year, is an initiative by the state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah to strengthen ties within apartment communities, foster positive values, and harness the potential of urban communities across various aspects.
It also aims to enhance social well-being, neighbourhood harmony and prosperity among residents of high-rise housing, a housing segment that is expanding rapidly in the state.
