PETALING JAYA, Dec 12 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is conducting an early publicity programme for the draft proposal of the Petaling Jaya Local Plan (Replacement), in line with current development needs.

Running from Monday (December 16) to February 16 next year, the exercise will integrate the Petaling Jaya Local Plan 1 (RTPJ1) and Petaling Jaya Local Plan 2 (RTPJ2).

Mayor Dato' Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the draft plan comes 20 years after RTPJ1 was implemented across Petaling Jaya.

“Among the main objectives are to review and align development direction in line with international, Federal, and state policies, as well as to optimise land use and identify potential areas for the future.

“We are also incorporating modern and sustainable planning approaches covering mobility, green spaces and the economy, in addition to strengthening the city’s identity and competitiveness to ensure it becomes more progressive.

“This plan covers various aspects, including roads, transportation, drainage, carbon, local issues like flooding, park upgrades…all these are taken into account as part of the development planning we receive,” he said during a media conference today.

Zahri added that the entire Petaling Jaya Local Plan (Replacement) is expected to be fully completed and gazetted by November 10 next year.

The comprehensive plan, better aligned with the latest urban development needs, is now in its second stage, following the preparation process that began in June.

“Throughout this period, we will collect all community complaints or suggestions for hearing sessions, reviews and local inquiries before proceeding to gazettement.

“We therefore request the cooperation of council members to inform all communities about this draft plan, and if necessary, we will bring it to official programmes,” he said.

Zahri said the public may attend the special exhibition on the draft proposal’s implementation at the MBPJ Headquarters' lobby and obtain feedback forms to submit suggestions.

“We hope the community, landowners, and stakeholders will take this opportunity to provide their views through this programme to ensure more effective engagement that will further improve development,” he said.

In August, MBPJ organised the Petaling Jaya Local Plan (Replacement) Preparation Workshop, which provided a comprehensive engagement platform in line with the aspiration to make Petaling Jaya a smart, sustainable, and resilient city by 2035.
