KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — The Works Ministry has urged individuals with information on those responsible for removing warning signs and concrete barriers at the site of a recent sports utility vehicle (SUV) accident in Hulu Terengganu to come forward and assist the investigation.
Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the ministry takes the incident seriously, noting that the area had been officially closed and secured with safety measures, in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“If it is alleged that the warning signs and barriers were removed, it is important for us to know who removed them. The Works Ministry certainly did not remove them; we had already taken the necessary precautionary measures,” he told reporters after the ministry’s monthly assembly, which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today.
Nanta said that investigations at the incident site are being carried out in line with the ministry’s code of conduct, but officials have yet to determine who repositioned the safety barriers.
“We still don’t know. If anyone has information, please come forward,” he said.
Last Friday, a soon-to-be-wed couple who were travelling in an SUV from Hulu Terengganu to Gua Musang were killed after the vehicle skidded and plunged 61 metres into a ravine, at KM52 of Jalan Kuala Jeneris-Sungai Gawi-Aring (Bukit Kawah).
Police earlier said negligence was believed to have caused the incident, and inspections discovered that warning signs and concrete barriers at the location had been removed by irresponsible individuals.
