Chow Kit spa raid: Deputy minister’s officer told to resign after arrest

SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 — An administrative and diplomatic officer (PTD) attached to the deputy higher education minister’s office has been ordered to resign following his recent arrest by police.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the ministry’s Integrity Unit has initiated an internal probe to determine disciplinary action, in accordance with the civil service regulations.

“I take note of media reports regarding the recent arrest of a PTD serving in my office recently. The ministry has taken strict actions to maintain the integrity of the public service,” he said in a statement last night.

Mustapha said further action will be decided based on the results of the Integrity Unit investigation and cooperation with the authorities, adding that no one is exempt from the country’s legal and regulatory processes.

“As deputy minister, I respect the ongoing investigation process and urge all parties not to make speculations that could affect the integrity of the investigation.”

While Mustapha did not specify details, the media recently reported that 17 civil servants were among 208 people arrested in a raid at a wellness club in Chow Kit on November 28, suspected of hosting homosexual activities.

However, 171 locals who were detained during the raid were released after the court rejected a remand application.

Yesterday, the Education Ministry (MOE) said several of its officers who were allegedly involved in immoral activities have been removed from all education institutions under its purview, pending the results of an internal probe.
