Seputeh landslide: Ongoing ground movement detected, residents urged to evacuate

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — Residents in the landslide-affected area of Taman United, Seputeh have been urged to relocate to a temporary relief centre (PPS) following confirmation of ongoing ground movement by the Fire and Rescue Department.

Brickfields district police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook said the PPS is expected to be activated at the Sri Petaling Community Hall, adding that the Kuala Lumpur Mayor has also instructed a contractor to immediately cover the affected slope with canvas as a precautionary measure.

“We are concerned that weather conditions may worsen tonight, which could trigger further movement,” he told the press at the site today.

Hoo also urged the public to avoid the landslide area. Two roads have been closed, and warning signs have been placed with assistance from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

The police are attempting to identify the owners of two cars and several motorcycles affected by the incident, with one vehicle completely buried, after soil movement occurred along the 60-metre slope due to continuous rainfall since yesterday. There were no casualties reported.

Earlier, more than 100 residents of a low-cost apartment block in Taman United were ordered to evacuate after the landslide occurred amid heavy rain this morning.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre received a call at 11.02am reporting a slope collapse along Jalan Sepadu 6, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Seputeh Fire and Rescue Station.
