SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — The state government should construct more low-cost housing in both Parliamentary and state constituencies to enable the public to rent homes at affordable prices.
Kota Kemuning state assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan said providing adequate, affordable housing would not only help the B40 income group but also create a more stable and inclusive rental market.
“In addition, the state government should consider setting a limit on annual rental increases to ensure that low-income earners can continue to afford housing at reasonable rates.
“I have found that many from the B40 group struggle to find reasonably priced rental homes. Current rental rates remain beyond their means,” he said in a statement today.
Digital community centres to tackle cyberbullying
Aside from housing, Preakas also highlighted the importance of addressing cyberbullying through a comprehensive approach that includes education, enforcement, and well-planned policies.
“The state government could establish digital community centres to enhance public cyber literacy and introduce a State Ombudsman mechanism for complaints.
“Cybersecurity guidelines and enactments should be formulated at the state level in collaboration with authorities, schools, and the community,” he said.
Preakas also suggested allocating additional resources to strengthen ongoing cyber safety education and prevention programmes.
Additional allocations needed to improve road quality
Touching on infrastructure, he said the state government should increase funding for technical agencies like the state Public Works Department (JKR) to ensure that primary and connecting roads can be upgraded promptly.
“Improving the quality of road infrastructure requires careful and continuous planning, not just temporary repairs.
“The state government’s active role is crucial to ensure that roads remain in the best possible condition for the comfort and safety of the people,” Preakas said.
