KLANG, Nov 10 — Property developer Acmar Group, in collaboration with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), has launched the International Master Plan Design Competition for the Development of Bandar Baru Klang, attracting participation from students representing 100 universities across 40 countries.
Klang Mayor Dato' Abd Hamid Hussain said the competition provides a platform for international students to present fresh ideas in sustainable, modern, and competitive urban planning, in line with the city's aspiration to become a strategic development hub in Selangor.
“Klang is a historic town with its own heritage, and development in Bandar Baru Klang must consider various factors to enhance both economic value and residents’ well-being.
“Through this competition, we can incorporate world-class design concepts, though we hope the proposals remain practical and aligned with local customs and culture,” he said after officiating the competition launch at the Wyndham Acmar Klang Hotel today.
Hamid added that the winner will receive RM12,000 in cash, along with a trophy and a certificate of appreciation.
Earlier, he witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between UTAR and Acmar Group, aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation in architecture, urban design, and sustainable development planning.
“As an institution with extensive experience in architecture and urban design, UTAR plays a vital role in helping to develop a well-structured and viable master plan for Bandar Baru Klang.
“Meanwhile, Acmar, as the landowner, has taken the initiative to involve academia in the project, which is expected to generate a positive impact on Klang’s development and local economy,” Hamid said.
