MBPJ expands child-friendly bus stop plan to three schools

SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has expanded its Child-Friendly Bus Stops initiative to three more schools this year in its aim to provide more inclusive, comfortable facilities.

These schools are SMK (P) Sri Aman, SMK (L) Bukit Bintang, and SK Petaling Jaya, the MBPJ wrote on Facebook today.

It said more schools were selected after the success of the pilot project at SMK Assunta, which was officiated by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah on June 20, 2024.

“The MBPJ remains committed to fostering a public transport environment that is more safe, inclusive, and child-friendly, in line with aspirations to make Petaling Jaya a city that cares about the welfare and future of the younger generation,” it added.

The council explained that an engagement session was held with 23 students and supervising teachers recently to ensure the bus stop design is more effective and meets young commuters’ needs.

In the session, participants shared important ideas, views and input on safety, comfort and accessibility, in line with the MBPJ’s child-friendly city principle.

“This effort shows that children’s voices and views are considered as part of the process of developing an inclusive city,” said the MBPJ.
