PUCHONG, Nov 1 — The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) is carrying out upgrade works on the main drainage system in Taman Mas and Putra Prima to reduce the risk of flash floods that frequently occur during heavy rain.
Its councillor, Mohd Nazri Sohot, said the RM3 million project involves replacing the old drains with larger U-shaped drains that can accommodate a higher volume of rainwater.
“The previous drains were small and often clogged with sediment and rubbish, causing water to overflow onto nearby roads.
“This upgrade is being implemented as an immediate measure to ensure smoother rainwater flow,” he told Media Selangor during a site visit.
Nazri added that the surrounding areas of Kampung Sri Aman Mas are now also under MPSepang’s supervision, allowing drainage maintenance to be carried out more systematically.
“The upgrade works are expected to be completed within two months. We do not want a repeat of the 2021 incident, where the drainage system failed to handle the high volume of rainwater."
He urged residents to help maintain the cleanliness of drainage channels and refrain from littering to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the project.
“MPSepang is committed to repairing and rebuilding all clogged drains in preparation for the upcoming rainy season,” he said.
Nazri expressed confidence that the project will help reduce the risk of flash floods, while improving the comfort and safety of residents in the area.
