SHAH ALAM, Oct 31 — Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is set to develop a new carpark below the transmission towers at Desa Mentari flats in PJS6 to ease parking woes among its residents.

Zone 24 councillor Farhan Shah Ridzuan said the project aims to provide a structured parking solution as the current lack of available bays has forced many to park along the roadside.

“Based on residents’ feedback, the council agrees that a solution is to use the space between the flats and Masjid Al-Islamiah Kampung Lindungan for parking,” he said, as reported by The Star.

The 2.75-hectare site, located within Zone 24, has been approved for carpark use following discussions between MBPJ and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

Farhan said several residents have already been using the area beneath the transmission towers for parking over the past few years, and MBPJ now intends to formalise it into a proper parking space.

“Our Engineering Department’s aim is to help make use of the space efficiently. We will have 600 parking bays,” he said.

The project, to be carried out in three phases, will include designated parking spots for women and persons with disabilities, as well as security features such as CCTV cameras with speakers, lighting, and a barrier gate system.

Farhan added that only registered residents will be allowed to use the facility, and the council will coordinate with the Desa Mentari Flats joint management body to monitor usage.

“We understand that lorries and bonded trucks want parking space too, and we will plan for such vehicles accordingly.

“However, all vehicles using the space will need to register with MBPJ.”

Farhan said the construction of the carpark is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.
