MBSA looks to eradicate illegal dumping in traditional villages

SHAH ALAM, Oct 29 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is stepping up efforts to ensure areas under its jurisdiction are free of illegal dumping, especially in traditional villages such as Kampung Jalan Kebun.

MBSA Public Cleanliness and Waste Sustainability deputy director Haslina Ab Aziz said that since last year, the council has transformed its waste collection by replacing its “bin point” system with a thrice-weekly door-to-door collection.

“This approach is not only easier for residents, but removes the main cause for dumping in public areas,” she said.

Haslina added that the MBSA has strengthened its cooperation with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to ensure each house has a closed garbage bin according to specifications.

Meanwhile, Kampung Jalan Kebun village head Ahmad Muhidin Dasuki said he is disappointed at how some residents and traders dump rubbish in enclosed areas.

He added that such irresponsible actions spoil the scenery and attract wild animals like dogs and monkeys that rummage through the trash and cause clogs in drains.

“The JPKK (Village Development and Safety Committee) takes this matter seriously and will step up monitoring. We receive complaints almost every day and act fast to prevent illegal dumping,” he said.

Muhidin also urged residents to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings as the entire community is responsible for it.
