MACC detains woman for dubious claim in food contract

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a food company owner on suspicion of submitting documents containing a false claim of RM450,000 related to a food supply contract for a skills training programme.

According to an anonymous source, the suspect in her 50s was detained after she appeared to give a statement at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 8.45pm on Monday (October 27).

“The suspect is believed to have committed the act in 2018 by submitting a claim of food supplies for a skills training programme to a government agency through a foundation in the capital.

“Initial investigations also found that several names of participants cited in the claim denied any involvement in the skills training programme and that the food supply was not delivered as stated in the claims document,” it said.

The source added that Magistrate Izra Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued a three-day remand order from October 28 to tomorrow after MACC made an application at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Meanwhile, when contacted, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
