Bandar Sg Buaya development begins after payouts

SHAH ALAM, Oct 27 — Bandar Sungai Buaya in Hulu Selangor is ready to be developed after a three-decades-long compensation disagreement over Felda Sungai Buaya land was settled last month.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the RM74.2 million compensation payout by Murna Jaya Development Bhd (MJD) in September marked a new start for the area towards more balanced, systematic growth.

“With the settlement of this issue, the state government will focus on zoning and the provision of public facilities and houses of worship so Bandar Sungai Buaya may develop with a balance between progress and people’s well-being,” he said in a Facebook post.

He expressed gratitude to all involved in the project, including staffers at MJD, the Land and Mines Office, the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency coordination office, and Batang Kali state constituency coordinator, who worked hard to ensure each settler received appropriate compensation.

He said the settlement wasn’t about just the payouts, but also recognising the contributions of 363 Felda ex-settlers who have worked the land for over 30 years.

“Some have been waiting since they were young and are now 80, some have even passed away. Now, delayed justice has been served. This isn’t just figures and success, but dignity, fairness, and hope that we have preserved,” Amirudin added.

On September 19, Media Selangor reported that 363 Felda Sungai Buaya ex-settlers received a final compensation payout totalling RM74.2 million, after waiting over 30 years.

The final settlement involved an overall amount of RM375 million by MJD from 1994 to 2005, with RM110.5 million paid to all settlers this year alone.
