Factory worker slashed while riding pillion in Melaka

MELAKA, Oct 21 — A young female factory operator sustained an injury to her lower back, believed to have been attacked with a sharp object by an unidentified man while riding pillion on a motorcycle along Jalan Tangga Batu here yesterday.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said a report on the incident was received at about 4.45 pm.

He said the 18-year-old victim, who works at a factory in Tanjung Kling here, has been taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

Christopher said the incident occurred while the victim was heading home to Batu Sembilan, Tangga Batu, riding pillion on a motorcycle with her sister-in-law, who works at the same factory.

“Preliminary findings showed that the victim’s 21-year-old sister-in-law did not notice anyone tailing their motorcycle before the incident, but the teenager suddenly complained of pain in her lower back and asked her to stop by the roadside.

“Following the incident, the victim’s sister-in-law spotted a dark blue Yamaha LC V8 motorcycle ridden by a man wearing a dark jacket and a blue helmet speeding away,” he said in a statement here today.

Christopher said, according to the doctor, the long tear marks on the victim’s shirt and the injuries she sustained indicated that she was slashed with a sharp object.

He said investigations revealed that the victim, who hails from Tangkak, Johor, came to Melaka about three weeks ago to work at the factory and had not been involved in any dispute or known to have contacts in the state.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
