KLANG, Oct 18 — The Selangor government aims to eradicate poverty within the next three years, building on its success in eliminating hardcore poverty.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said according to the latest data from the State Development Action Council Meeting, around 2,000 poor individuals are currently on the brink of hardcore poverty.
“Previously, we identified those in the hardcore poor category and took proactive measures by implementing various assistance programmes under the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang initiative, while monitoring their progress every six months.
“This approach has proven effective, enabling us to eliminate hardcore poverty. This year, we identified around 2,000 poor individuals who are in need of assistance.”
“They have not yet fallen into the hardcore poverty category, and we are working to address their problems so they can break free from poverty,” he said after officiating the Selangor-level Deepavali celebration at Dataran Klang @ Padang Chetty here last night.
Amirudin said the formula to eliminate poverty will be presented in the upcoming 2026 Selangor Budget.
“For those in poverty, there are some who are unable to work and need basic support to sustain their lives. We will propose in the budget a method or formula that includes monitoring records every six months.
“We will assist through state government initiatives, supplemented by other forms of aid such as zakat, support from the Welfare Department, and the Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) programme,” he said.
