PUTRAJAYA, Oct 15 — Sixty-one school projects nationwide are expected to be completed and handed over to the Education Ministry (MOE) next year, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Most of the projects involved the construction of new complexes and additional blocks to address student density.

"Next year, we have 61 projects that are being implemented that will be handed over to MOE. These projects are diverse; there are new schools in the form of complexes and also additional blocks," he said after officiating the Precinct 15 School Complex's construction handover today.

Nanta added that of the 1,251 school projects planned under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) with a total value of RM32.63 billion, 309 projects have been completed, while another 454 are under construction.

"321 projects are still in the planning stage, 79 are in the procurement process, 82 are in the design stage, and six projects are in the re-tendering process," he said.

Commenting on the Precinct 15 School Complex project, the minister said it was built for RM117 million and completed 45 days ahead of schedule, thanks to the use of the industrialised building system (IBS).

"Government policy stipulates that projects must comply with 70 per cent IBS usage. In projects implemented by the Public Works Department, we ensure that the percentage is adhered to except for projects in very remote areas," Nanta said.

Meanwhile, MOE secretary-general Datuk Aminuddin Hassim said the Putrajaya Precinct 15 School Complex comprises 36 primary school classrooms, 42 secondary school classrooms, and preschool facilities.

"The Putrajaya District Education Office will mobilise teachers to welcome the first batch in January next year," he said.
