KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 — Some 157 development projects involving 18 ministries under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) were reported to be behind schedule as of December 31, 2024, with the Education Ministry recording the highest number at 46, according to the Auditor-General’s Report Series 3/2025.
This was followed by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry with 34 projects, the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry with 12, and the Housing and Local Government Ministry with 11.
In this regard, it urged each ministry and department to act swiftly to address the delayed projects, to ensure all planned projects can be completed by the end of 2025 (the final year of the 12MP).
The report also stated that 3,829 projects (43.7 per cent) were at the implementation stage, 2,400 projects (27.4 per cent) at the pre-implementation stage, and 2,355 projects (26.9 per cent) at the post-implementation stage.
Overall, 171 projects (2.0 per cent) were classified as cancelled or under review.
“Project expenditure performance from 2021 to 2024 stood at RM315.932 billion, exceeding the approved allocation of RM307.908 billion for the same period.
“This amount has reached 76.1 per cent of the total allocation ceiling of RM415.0 billion for the period following the 12MP Mid-Term Review,” the report said.
