Sukma 2026: Selangor launches tour to recruit 5,000 volunteers

SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The state government will launch a tour across all nine districts to find 5,000 volunteers for the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2026.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the recruitment drive will be joined by the Selangor Youth Council and Selangor Youth Movement (PeBS).

“For Sukma … we are aiming to recruit 5,000 individuals who will be (undergo) courses in event management and protocol.

“Registration opened today during the Selangor Youth Convention, and volunteer recruitment will last two months. Other than physical means, volunteer registration will be done online,” he said after officiating the convention today.

The Selangor Sukma 2026 will be held August 15 to 24 next year, followed by the Para Sukma from September 5 to 14. The opening ceremony will be done at the Sepang International Circuit while the closing ceremony will be at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium.

This year’s edition will see 474 events across 37 sports, including 30 core sports like rugby and seven additional ones like e-sports, cricket and silambam.

Sukma 2026 will involve and be held across Selangor’s nine districts and 12 local councils, except for track cycling, which will be held at the National Velodrome in Negeri Sembilan.

Najwan, who is also Sukma Selangor chairman, said those living outside Selangor may apply to volunteer at the biennial event.

“We aren’t limiting volunteer (participation), but the priority is for Selangor people. They can register as the event will be held throughout Selangor,” he said.
