SHAH ALAM, Sept 16 — The Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) will restore the legacy of the iconic Shah Alam Stadium and emerge as Selangor’s symbol of unity through sports and innovation, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Far more than modern infrastructure, he said, the redevelopment embodies the solidarity and patriotism of Selangor’s people.

Amirudin explained that the new hybrid stadium would be adaptable for various uses, from football and indoor sports to concerts, cultural events and even weddings.

“Learning from the challenges faced by Bukit Jalil National Stadium, we are building a hybrid facility with a removable and fully maintainable pitch. The space can also be converted for pickleball, tennis, volleyball and badminton.

“KSSA is not only for football but for uniting the people in supporting Selangor, nurturing a strong sense of patriotism through sports and shared experiences,” he said in a special interview with Media Selangor.

He added that the redevelopment is also expected to spur the state’s sports industry and promote a healthy lifestyle, in line with Selangor’s role as host of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026.

“Selangor, with its large population and strong football heritage, cannot measure this investment purely in ringgit and sen. The unity we see in Red Giants supporters, and soon in Sukma, shows the value of sports as an industry and lifestyle,” he said.

The KSSA will be Selangor FC’s homeground and feature public recreational facilities, with a seating capacity of 30,000 to 40,000.

The former Shah Alam Stadium, home of the Red Giants, was demolished in July last year to make way for the redevelopment.

The upcoming complex will also house a hotel, an indoor theatre, retail spaces and a direct connection to the LRT network, making it not just a sports hub, but a centre of culture and commerce.
