SHAH ALAM, Sept 12 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has distributed 100 laptops to Selangor children enrolled in public higher learning institutions (IPTAs) this year.
Yayasan MBI chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the RM150,000 contribution is meant to facilitate the learning process, especially for students from B40 families.
“My hope is that recipients will use this contribution to its fullest in their education. We have also provided free 30GB per month SIM cards for up to a year.
“The contribution helps them fulfil their academic duties. This administration will do its best to provide space and opportunities to improve education,” he said when handing over the aid to 27 recipients today.
Azri said students from IPTAs nationwide will be the first batch of recipients, while the remaining will receive the aid soon.
He said that this year, Yayasan MBI has allocated RM500,000 for SIM card internet network costs for 3,000 university students.
“Before this, we handed the aid to other parties like village heads, fishermen and such, but this year we are focusing solely on university students to support their education,” he added.
Universiti Selangor (Unisel) sixth-semester diploma student Hansa Gouri Ravichandran, 20, said the laptop will let her finish her assignments on time.
“I am from a B40 family and am cared for by an adoptive sister. I’ve never had this device so my assignments are often done late because I have to borrow my roommate’s computer.
“I’m very happy to have my own computer. I will use it well throughout my studies,” the student said.
