KUCHING, Sept 10 — The Sarawak police seized an assortment of drugs weighing 34kg, valued at RM1.14 million, in two separate raids in Sibu and Bintulu last week.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said that in the Wednesday (September 3) raid on a house in Jalan Lilin, Sibu, they seized drugs valued at RM479,506.12 and confiscated assets worth RM387,534.20.
"Based on intelligence gathered, we then arrested a 48-year-old man and seized 100 suspected ecstasy pills weighing 0.219kg. We also detained a 33-year-old woman,” he said in a statement today.
Based on further information, the police later raided another house in Lorong Ulu Sungai Merah, Sibu and seized drugs suspected to be Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), weighing 14.373kg, as well as Erimin 5 (0.126kg) and ketamine (0.149kg).
"Shortly after, we arrested a man, 34, and a woman, 27, who were riding on a motorcycle in the same area and seized 2.168kg of syabu," Saifullizan said.
The police also confiscated various assets belonging to the suspects worth RM387,534.20, including a Lexus RX 350 car, a Perodua Axia, RM34,796 in cash, as well as jewellery worth RM268,738.20.
"This syndicate has been active since mid-2024 by obtaining its supplies from Miri through the WeChat application, before transporting them to Sibu by using express bus services and storing the drugs in residential homes.
"Of the four suspects, two tested positive for drugs. All four suspects have no previous criminal records. The two men have been remanded for seven days until Thursday (September 11), while the two women were remanded for eight days in stages until Friday (September 12),” he said.
Meanwhile, in another operation, the police seized 17kg of syabu valued at RM663,000, which were found in a food product box labelled 'coconut sugar’ in a premises along Jalan Tanjung Batu, Bintulu, last Tuesday (September 2).
"The drugs are believed to have been sent from Peninsular Malaysia using air cargo. We are tracking down the syndicate's mastermind and also working closely with courier companies and cargo services to enhance control,” Saifullizan said.
All the cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
