SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — Port Klang ranking among the world’s top 10 busiest container ports for the first time reflects Selangor’s rapid economic growth, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
He said the milestone demonstrates the state’s competitiveness and Port Klang’s growing role as a hub for global and regional trade.
“This achievement proves that Selangor’s economy is growing rapidly, with new industrial zones also contributing to this success. Feedback from investors shows that Port Klang has become more efficient, with better service offerings.
“This not only makes Selangor a hub for regional investment but also strengthens related sectors such as logistics and warehousing. When the port is efficient, the entire ecosystem grows,” he told Media Selangor.
Ng also congratulated Port Klang for improving its services over the years.
Yesterday, the Transport Ministry (MOT) announced that Lloyd’s List named Port Klang 10th in its annual top 100 maritime port ranking.
The ranking places Port Klang ahead of Hong Kong and cements its position as one of the region’s key maritime gateways, while reaffirming the country’s standing in Southeast Asia.
Lloyd’s List is one of the world’s oldest publications that focuses on global shipping and maritime industries.
The MOT said Port Klang’s rise to 10th place reflects its steady improvement over the past few years, from 13th in 2022 to 11th in 2023, and now 10th this year.
The ministry added that the achievement is a reflection of ongoing efforts to strengthen the port’s capacity, facilities, and capabilities to meet global trade demands.
