SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — To make Selangor a pioneering model for hi-tech padi farming and increase yields, 2,567 farmers under the Selangor Northwest Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) are undergoing intensive training this year.
The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (MAFS) said the training covers modern planting techniques, disease and pest control, and efficient farm management.
“Padi farmers were also given access to new seeds that are more disease resistant and mature faster, as well as automation equipment such as ploughs, transplanters, and harvesters through the IADA.
“Selangor was chosen as the pioneering state for smart padi planting, with success indicators including the increase in yield per hectare, efficient input use, increased farmers’ income, and reduced pesticide use via IPM (Integrated Pest Management),” MAFS said in a written reply to Parliament yesterday in response to a question from Sungai Besar MP Dato’ Muslimin Yahaya.
The ministry said it is confident this approach will improve local padi yields, making Selangor a model for the nation’s food sector transformation.
